31Firefly Posted July 16, 2007 Report Posted July 16, 2007 Just had a set of Spax lowering springs (35mm) delivered this morning from POTN. Did anyone who has lowered springs fitted come across any problems when fitting? if so what can i do to overcome them? ThanksGraeme Quote
p10ant Posted July 17, 2007 Report Posted July 17, 2007 Hi, Rear springs are a doddle to fit just unbolt the shock absorber and lower the arm down to release the spring , I find the front are easier to do if you remove the strut with the hub still attached, just disconnect the balljoint, T.R.E., Drop link, caliper, disconnect the plug on the ABS sensor and slide the hub off the Driveshaft, it sounds a lot but it is easier than trying to wrestle the strut in/out of the hub while it is still on the car. The strut tops will be rusty as the water just lies in them, (poor design!), so give them a good soak with release oil (you have to remove the panel under the windscreen to gain access. only three bolts)and make sure the allen key and swan necked spanner are a good fit , also use a good set of spring clamp when you remove the springs from the struts and while you've got them stripped you should replace the strut top bushes and bearings (don't cost much). I lowered the wifes Alhambra 50mm and it looks just right with the 18" wheels and made a big difference to the handling. Cheers, Paul T. Quote
31Firefly Posted July 20, 2007 Author Report Posted July 20, 2007 Thanks, i am getting them done a week on tuesday by a local mechanic, he isn't keen on doing the front ones because of the hassles with the rusty bolts, but i will start wd40 them every 2nd day from now. Hope that will make it easier to get off. I will post a couple of pics when i get it done. ThanksG Quote
Simply_Graham Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Hi Graeme Any chance you can post pictures before / after lowering to see how it affects your car? Its much easier to compare rather than comparing vechicle with tired springs. Regards Graham Quote
